The Bridge Book Award

The Bridge Book Award is conceived and curated by Maria Ida Gaeta, founded in 2015 with the collaboration of Maria Gliozzi.


Since its first edition, the prize has benefited from the support of numerous Italian and American partners. The Italian Cultural Institute of New York and Federazione Unitaria Italiana Scrittori (FUIS) are currently the main contributors of the prize. The award also benefits from the collaboration of the American Academy in Rome, Civitella Ranieri Foundation, and starting from this latest edition, from the Center of American Studies in Rome. During the previous editions, the partners that sustained the prize are the Embassy of the United States of America in Rome, the Center for Book and Reading of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage in Italy (CEPELL) the Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) in New York, the Italian Consulate General in New York, the Center For Fiction in New York, and other Italian and American cultural institutions and universities.

Mission

The Bridge Book Award is proposed as a "bridge" that unites Italian and American cultures with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding through Literature.


The prize consists of a contribution to the costs of translating the winning books, fiction and non-fiction, from Italian into English and vice versa. In this way the project intends to promote knowledge and encourage the reading of some of the best and most recent publications of both fiction and non-fiction of the two countries. The Award also aims to promote the diffusion of the Italian language and encourage its dissemination in the American publishing, universities and institutions abroad. .


The four authors of the winning books, two Americans and two Italians, are invited to the awards ceremony in Rome and New York respectively.
